5 Affiliate Marketing Secrets For Success

5 Affiliate Marketing Secrets For Success

You may have been working on your affiliate marketing business for a while, but you are yet to see a lot of success.

Maybe you haven’t even made a commission yet?

It’s frustrating, right?

Maybe you even feel like giving up?

Don’t be too hasty, just yet!

The concept of affiliate marketing (selling other people’s products to receive a commision) may be simple, but it’s not necessarily easy!

Not unless you know some affiliate marketing secrets.

In this post, I am going to share with you 5 simple, PROVEN secrets that “crack the code” of affiliate marketing!

How to Create a Sales Funnel

Secret #1 “Choose” Your Niche…

When people first start out learning about affiliate marketing, the most common advice I always hear is that you need to “pick” a niche… BUT, I like to look at it from a slightly different angle and actively CHOOSE a niche…

Sounds similar?

Let me explain…

Everything starts with the three big markets…

Health…

Wealth…

And Relationships…

So, in the Wealth market, you can chunk it down further to a niche… for example, real estate, share trading, or the make money online niche… but the trouble with “picking a niche” is this is where most people stop…

The make money online niche, in particular, is a very crowded market and is in what I call a “red ocean”… It’s overcrowded and filled with too many sharks, bloodying up the water…

What’s needed is to break it down further to a sub-niche in a less crowded “blue ocean”

For example, we can break down, Wealth > Real Estate > Renovations

Wealth > Online Business > Facebook Ads

Wealth > Online Business > Selling on Amazon

Or in my case Wealth > Online Business > Affiliate Marketing

So here, we are actively “choosing” our niche in a less crowded blue ocean.

But here, I also like to take it one step further and build out of our sub-niche our own personal brand.

For myself I have created a brand around The Financial Freedom Warrior and the Residual Profit Secrets – essentially creating financial freedom with residual income by affiliate marketing.

I have found that the people that take the time to invest in their own personal brand are the ones really knocking it out of the park!

So what can be your blue ocean?

Secret #2 Crafting your affiliate offer

There are plenty of quality affiliate offers to promote, but what will incentivize people to click on your offer rather than directly from the vendor?

I always recommend that you make your affiliate offer AT LEAST 10% better than what the vendor is offering…

It could be as simple as offering a free eBook or cheat sheet, or a video walkthrough… or even a skype or zoom call.

You can start with something simple and build it out over time…

Quite often, people will buy through your link just because of the bonuses you offer.

Once you have your offer crafted then you will need to set up a simple funnel to collect people’s email address so you can deliver their bonuses.

This can be easily done with a software called Clickfunnels.

Secret #3 Choose your traffic source

Once you have crafted your affiliate offer and set up your squeeze page and funnel, then you need to send traffic to your offer…

This can be done organically (free) by blogging, SEO, YouTube, using social media, Facebook lives, and messenger…

Paid traffic is much quicker though, and you can do this with Facebook Ads, Google Ads, Bing Ads and YouTube Ads…

For the “make money online” niche, however, I recommend starting by running Solo Ads… This is where you pay someone with a big email list to send your offer out to their audience…

You pay for each click so you’re guaranteed to know up front exactly how many people are going to see your offer. (If people don’t click – you don’t pay.)

I use and recommend a marketplace with tons of different solo ad providers called Udimi for my solo ads.

Secret #4 Follow up via email

affiliate marketing secrets

The money is in the list!

You may have heard this, right?

In the marketing world, it is often said that a prospect has to see your offer seven times before a sale is made…

This is why it is SO important to capture people’s email address…

Then you can continue to follow up with helpful content and other relevant offers for as long as they continue to subscribe and you can build out the lifetime value of each customer.

A general rule is that each email subscriber on your list is worth around a dollar a month, so it is vital that you always continue to build out your list and follow up…

I use and recommend Aweber as my autoresponder for sending out my emails…

Step #5 Track everything

This is an often overlooked, but vital part of affiliate marketing success, especially when using paid traffic.

In the past, I have received commissions, but I wasn’t sure where they were coming from so I couldn’t scale…

It was a bit like throwing crap up against the wall and seeing what sticks!

Once I started using ClickMagick to track where my sales were coming from (and where they weren’t) and figure out my cost per email optin, I could quickly work out where to scale my campaigns.

I could no longer worry about getting sales from the front end because as long as I was following up with offers to my email list, the lifetime value of my customer was growing…

Tracking everything like a science like this is what separates the amateurs from the professionals…

Those that can afford to spend the most to acquire a customer wins!

  1. Thank you John for these five affiliate marketing secrets for success. This will greatly help many, including myself, at converting sales with our affiliate marketing niche websites.

I fully agree that you need to narrow down your niche from the broader niche market. I remember when I first started I wanted to tackle the entire niche of video games but then realized it was too broad.

But then once I narrowed the niche down into a specific sub niche, writing content became easier and also more fun. I was able to target a specific audience and gain traffic. The more traffic the better the chances at earnings.

So thank you again for these secrets. I really need to start crafting my affiliate offer, perhaps some free premium training to help potential affiliate marketers to find and narrow down niche ideas. Food for thought.

    Robert

    • I think that’s a great idea, Robert, I am sure that you could offer some excellent value for people in this area!
As you said, you had greater success when you narrowed down your niche and I know many people struggle with this concept in the beginning and leave it too broad!
      Great idea!
Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated 🙂

  2. Hi John, such a nice piece you have here. I actually picked interest in your post about paying someone with a large email list to help with ads and it really seems like a very good idea and a big catch! Thanks for that.
I have a question though, if someone is just starting out will it be wise to use the incentive method, i mean offering a gift to get someone to buy through you. I asked this because my profit stil comes from the commission i will get, so what if it isnt much to start with, how then will i be able to cover the cost of the gifts? Hope you dont mind my asking, am just curious to know if this method can be implemented by a newbie.

    • Thanks for your comment Queen and good question.

Your free gift or bonus doesn’t have to cost you any money, you could just do something simple like give a value video, or string a few of your blog posts together and create an eBook.

My latest eBook as an example, I put together using Google slides and I completed it in a few hours.

As I mentioned, you can start out small, and build out your bonus offer over time, but if you make your offer even a little bit better than the product creator, your conversions will definitely see an increase.

      Hope this helps 🙂

  3. I think mastering one traffic source and tracking everything you do are two things people can do to really get better at affiliate marketing.

Like you said while paid traffic is quicker, organic traffic brings very targeted people to your site eager to hear what you have to say – so usually there easier to sell too.

Also by tracking everything you can eventually see what is and is not working for you — then basically scale up what’s working to grow your business.

    • Tracking really is very important Michael, but not many people do it.

It’s one thing that separates the people that are really successful at affiliate marketing, than those that just dabble.

You have to treat it as a REAL business and not just as a hobby, or as something you just HOPE works out!

I like your point about organic traffic being more targeted which can be true when you have good SEO, but things like Facebook Ads can be really targeted as well if done right.

I like to use several sources of traffic, both free and paid, but you must start with one and master it first!

      Thanks for your feedback 🙂

  4. Great blog here.
I like the 5 quick tips and the fact each can be expanded on through a special report or future individual articles. Affiliate marketing is a great niche and you are essentially carving a swath for yourself in the affiliate industry.

  5. Hello and thanks so much for sharing, I have been apart of this business for a little over two years and what I have come to realize is that if you don’t have certain things in place like what you are talking about all you will have is a website a bunch of products and nothing else.
Thanks so much for sharing these 5 secrets.

    • Absolutely Norman… you have to have the right foundations in place, that’s for sure.
I hope these 5 secrets can help you with your affiliate marketing business!
      Thanks for your comment 🙂

  6. Hello John, thanks for the interesting article, those 5 secrets are really good to know, and yeah i agree with them. In my opinion the most important one is choosing the correct niche, nowadays competition is really high and it gets even tougher, i’m personally writing about ” self improvement ” and it’s going well because i have a lot of options to choose. I like the idea of buying click on adds, might be a good boost to my traffic.

    • Hey Rich, choosing your niche is very important, but the most important part of that equation is building your own particular brand around that specific niche.

The more thought and effort you put into your own branding will pay you back big time in the future.

Solo Ads work particularly well in the “make money online” and “Biz op” space, I’m not sure how they would work with the self improvement niche, but it could well be worth testing out!

      Thanks for commenting 🙂

  7. Hey there,

I have been considering trying out Facebook and YouTube ads for a long time now and haven’t gotten the right strategy yet to leverage the platform.

I have been told in the past that if you target the traffic on Facebook well, you can make good commissions and don’t really know how to target them.

Can you please help me through this?

    • With Facebook advertising you can target just about anything.

You can target based on interests, demographics and so much more.

You can re-target specific audiences and even make lookalike audiences.

Facebook advertising requires a lot of work and you really need to take specific courses on the subject, I can’t really do it any justice trying to explain it here in a comment.

Two resources that have helped me though, are the Affiliate Bootcamp course, which covers some cool tactics and strategy, but if you really want to go in depth, you may want to take a look at Dan Henry’s Funnels and Ads for Entrepreneurs. Although it is a paid course, it’s well worth it!

      Hope this helps 🙂
