5 Dirty Little Secrets to Making Money Online

For most people making money online is often very mysterious and shrouded in secrecy.

In fact many people believe that it is all a scam and not even possible.

The fact is that nothing could be further from the truth… IF you go about it in the right way!

Below is a picture of my magic whistle, and in this article I am going to use it to blow the whistle on the 5 secrets to making money online.

Secret #1 – What is your niche?

The biggest secret you need to uncover to make money online, is what is the niche that you will be building your online business around.

So what the heck is a niche?

Put simply, a niche is just a group of people, or a particular audience of people, and they are all searching for a specific topic online.

For example my wife loves cooking.

She and millions of other people are searching for information online about cooking.

Cooking is a niche.

I love sport… sport is a niche.

So is gardening, fishing, electronic goods, baby clothes, health and fitness, and making money online.

They are all niches.

Some of the biggest proven niche markets are:

  1. Business and finance
  2. Self-improvement/personal development
  3. Health/fitness/sport
  4. Dating/relationships
  5. Food/cooking
  6. Hobbies/skills

All of these areas have groups or audiences of people all searching for information online and they are willing to pay for it.

These niches can even be broken down further into sub-niches or micro-niches, and you will still have millions of people searching for them online.

Using cooking again as an example, a sub-niche could be Asian cooking, or Paleo recipes, or vegetarian, or vegan.

Another example I recently came across on the Internet was Wedding dresses.

In the United States there are 512,480 searches a month on google for wedding dresses, but breaking it down even further there are 1512 searches a month for vintage lace wedding dresses.

Now if you were interested in selling wedding dresses, this could potentially be something you could build an online business around.

So what is your niche?

What are you passionate about?

What are your hobbies, interests and skills?

What specialised knowledge do you have?

What magazines and books do you read?

What do other people seek your help with?

What particular niche can you build an online business around, help people with, and make money online from?

When you find your niche you will find your fortune.

We all have specialised knowledge, expertise and information that can help other people, and they will pay you for it.

This is what I believe is the greatest advantage about making money online.

You can help other people by doing something that you love and are passionate about.

So what is your niche?

Secret #2 – Build a website

Having your own website is like having your own prime piece of real estate on the Internet.

It is also like having your own little storefront.

You need to have somewhere for your customers to visit so they can buy something from you.

You need to have your very own website.

Now you may be saying to yourself that you don’t know how to build a website, or write code or any of the other technicalities involved.

You may think that you have to spend thousands and thousands of dollars for a web designer to build a website for you… and many people do!

But you don’t have to.

There are platforms nowadays that have taken all the technical difficulties out of it and you can actually build a website in several minutes with just a few clicks.

I have built several websites using a tool called WordPress and I have never written code in my life.

Sure, you can still learn that if you want to, but there really isn’t any need for it to build a successful website yourself.

These days it is really simple to build your own website, all you need is the right tools, training and support.

Secret #3 – Getting traffic

You may have heard the saying “build it and they will come”.

Well that’s not entirely true with your website and online business.

To make money online you will need to get visitors or what is known as traffic to your website.

The more traffic you can get to your website, the more money you can make.

So where do your visitors find your website?

Google!

For example, say you have a cooking niche and people are searching online for recipes, then your goal is to get your website ranked on the first page of the google search results so that people can find your site.

But how do you get there?

You could pay for ads.

But a better way is to learn about keywords and do it for free.

Keywords are particular phrases that people are searching for online.

Phrases such as “asian cooking recipes” or “Chinese dishes”

The key is to find what we call the “low-hanging fruit”, keywords that have a high search volume, but low competition, so it is much easier to get ranked.

If you are not on the first page of google’s search results, then no one is going to find you.

Learning about keywords and getting traffic is essential to making money online.

Getting traffic is the life-blood of your online business.

There are excellent keyword research tools out there that can help you find this low-hanging fruit very easily.

Secret #4 – Create content

The real secret to making money online is to solve peoples problems.

If you can create enough value for people, and solve their problems, then making money online becomes a much simpler process.

And you create this value in the form of content on your website.

So once you have your keywords, then you need to create content around them.

Mostly, you will create content in the form of a blog, but you can also do videos, or a mixture of both.

A lot of people also get hung up about creating content for their site.

They think that they have to be some sort of writing genius, or a star director.

Well I started writing blogs on my website in my late thirties and I hadn’t written anything since high school!

If I can do it, you can do it!

Just think of it as a conversation.

Don’t try to be anything your not.

Just relay your knowledge like you would to someone over a cup of coffee.

People also get caught up with thinking that they need to be an expert.

You have knowledge and expertise in something that other people don’t, and as you learn more you teach more.

Share your knowledge.

And you will get better.

I know my writing style get’s better as time goes on and I am often going back over my previous blogs and touching them up.

Don’t let the fear of creating content scare you off.

And you might find yourself enjoying it 🙂

The main thing to concentrate on is creating value for your visitors.

Write good quality content that helps people will also help your rankings.

Google loves it!

Secret #5 Make money

While it is nice to write a great blog and have heaps of people visiting your site and reading it, the whole point of having a website in the first place is to make money from it.

Unfortunately a lot of people miss this and get frustrated and give up too soon.

So it is essential that you learn how to monetise your website.

There are only three primary ways that you can make money online in any great capacity.

  1. Selling physical products
  2. Selling digital products
  3. Affiliate marketing

I will go into these areas in more detail.

Selling physical products

You can sell just about any physical product that you can think of online.

You can do something called drop shipping, where once somebody buys something they like on your website, an order is put into a wholesaler, who then ships it out to the customer.

Using a program such as Amazon, you can also sell any physical product that you can think of.

Selling digital products

Selling digital, downloadable products such as eBooks, online courses, webinars and memberships programs can be highly profitable.

Creating your own digital products is something that we should all aspire to online.

They are cheap to make, highly profitable, and for work that you do once, it can keep making you money over and over again – even while you sleep!

There is no greater feeling than waking up to an email saying that you have made a sale overnight!

Affiliate marketing

Selling other people’s products as an affiliate is the best way to start earning money online.

You don’t need to create a product of your own, you just sell other people’s physical or digital products.

Think of yourself as their business partner.

Amazon has one of the biggest affiliate programs out there, but there are literally hundreds of affiliate programs out there you can join.

How it works is very simple.

Your audience is searching for something in google, they come across something that interests them which leads to you website, they then buy something that you recommend to them, and you then make a commission.

Some commissions as an affiliate marketer can be as high as 50-75% in some cases.
