Essentially affiliate marketing is marketing someone else’s product online, and then once a sale is made, you make a commission.
This can be done as simply as writing a product review.
For example, you could write a review about a book you just read that you bought from Amazon (who you have signed up with as an affiliate), someone who is searching for information online about this book comes across your review and reads it, they like what you say, they click on a link on your website and buy the book.
Then at the end of the month, Amazon sends you a commission cheque.
