How to Raise Your Standards

family my road to financial freedom

There is a famous quote that says “If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got”

So in other words if you want to have different results, you will need to do some things differently.

One thing that has helped me to create greater success in my life is to hold myself to a higher standard and one of the best ways to do this is to create a simple code of conduct that I want to live my life by.

This simple concept has helped me tremendously in lifting the standards for myself and to become a better person.

I would like to share with you my code of conduct and maybe give you some ideas that you could use to raise your own standards.

Integrity my road to financial freedom

1. To Be Honest

Honesty is one of my core values in life and I strive to be honest in all my dealings with others and to tell the truth always.

2. To Have Integrity-To Keep My Word To Myself and Others

It is important to do what you say you are going to do, not only to other people but also what you say to yourself.

When you keep your promises to yourself it breeds confidence and character.

3. To Always Be There For Family

My family is very important to me and I want to make sure that I am always there for them if and when they need me.

4. To Be a Strong, Loving and Kind Husband and Father

It is important for me to show strong leadership for my family so that they know that they can rely on me.

But it is also important to be kind and loving as well.

5. To be a Role Model-To Lead by Example

To be a good leader I want to make sure that I am doing the right thing, to lead by example and to be someone that people would look up to.

6. To be Considerate and Patient With Others

Sometimes I can be a bit impatient and get a bit stroppy.

I need to remind myself to be patient and remember that other people may not have the same beliefs, rules and standards that I have.

7. To Make The World a Better Place Through my Gifts, Actions and Purpose

One of the keys to a happy and purposeful life is contribution to others.

I want to make sure that I am sharing what I know with others, creating value and hopefully changing their lives for the better.

8. To Always Grow, Learn and Seek to Constantly Improve.

Another major key to happiness is progress and growth.

As Tony Robbins says “If you are not growing then you are dying”

I always want to keep growing, learning new things and improving my life.

Success is not a destination but a direction.

9. To be Present With Others-Listen

It is easy in this day and age get distracted and not have my mind on where I am and what I am doing.

I want to make sure that I really listen to people, be completely present with them and keep my mind on what I am doing. Then I will really be living in the moment rather than be thinking of all the things I have to do.

10. Always Remember it is a Process Not a Destination and Enjoy Everything Along the Way!

On the road to success it is easy to get caught up with achieving and not really enjoy the process.

It is important to remember to always enjoy yourself and to have fun along the way!

So why not create your own code of conduct and raise your standards.

Remember, like goal setting if you don’t know where you are going or the kind of person you want to be, how are you going to get there or be that person?

I read my code of conduct daily and although I don’t always follow them 100% or I forget or make mistakes, I am constantly on the road of self-improvement and want to become a better person!

So will you take my challenge and raise the standards you live by?

  1. Hey, John

    Another great article once again!

Too many people complain about getting the same results over and over (which they don’t want). But fail to realize that they must change something if they want different outcomes in life and business.

Thank You for your code of conduct and very interesting to read.

I just socially shared this post by the way 🙂

    Neil

  2. Hey John, did you know that ‘silent’ and ‘listen’ share the same alphabets?
That’s why it’s important that we keep our silence when someone else is talking.
My dad always says, critique constructively but if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it.

    • Interesting about “silent” and “listen”.

I never realised that but it makes sense, and I have to agree with your Dad!

      Thanks for your comment Cathy!

  3. Thanks for this John! I realise our biggest enemy in life is ourself. If you can win your own battle, you can’t expect to achieve success in life. One thing I learn recently is that whatever that makes you comfortable will not make you grow. People get complacent and we have to constantly put ourselves in a tight spot in order to overcome any obstacles.

    Cheers!

    • So true Jack!

The biggest battle we will ever have is between our own ears.

We constantly need to be on guard of our negative thoughts and fears and not let them stop us from achieving our goals.

      Thanks for your feedback!

  4. Hi John,

that is a very powerful code of conduct. As I started out with my business, I was failing left and right until I learned to change my actions in order to get different and better results.

If we don’t leave the comfort zones and reset our priorities, I’m afraid many people won’t succeed in life at all.

I really enjoyed this post and it lit up some light bulbs. Time to redo my code of conduct and adjust it where needed. 🙂

    Thank you and continued success,
    Nicole

    • Thanks so much Nicole I am glad you enjoyed my post!

Our comfort zones really can become a trap to our success and happiness. We need to constantly push ourselves to a higher standard for both ourselves and to be a role model for others!

      Thank you for your comment.

  5. As you kind of mention, “happiness is not a destination, it is a way of life” which basically mean that you continuously have to be the best person you can, and to make every single day the best day of your life, and you have some very good advices on how to achieve just that.

Thank you for enlightening us with your valuable insight. Great post John!

    • Thanks so much for your comment Tommy!

We only have one life and I believe that it is our duty to live the very best life possible!

      Let your light shine!
