Welcome to part 3 of this 3-part blog series based on multi-millionaire T. Harv Eker’s best selling book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind.

Eker’s book is all about how rich and poor people think differently and their results comes down to their mindset, beliefs and the way that they think and feel around money.

Harv refers to these as wealth files.

So let’s pick up where we left off in part 2.

Wealth file #12

Rich people think both.

Poor people think either/or.

Harv Eker uses the analogy of “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”, but what is the point of having your cake if you CAN’T eat it?

Do you want a successful business or a happy family?

Love or money?

Business or fun?

The answer should be BOTH!

Rich people live in a world of abundance and look for ways to have both.

Wealth file #13

Rich people focus on their net worth.

Poor people focus on working income.

When people are talking about money they will normally say “how much do you make?” and are focused on working income alone.

I call this having the job mentality.

Rich people focus on net worth.

While they are also focused on cash flow and residual income, they are more concerned with growing an asset base in the form of property, shares and in their business, that will keep growing over time.

Wealth file #14

Rich people manage their money well.

Poor people manage their money poorly.

Poor people either manage their money badly or bury their head in the sand.

They have no real assets, little savings, and are in a lot of bad debt.

Where as rich people pay themselves first, use good debt and not bad debt.

And have a money management system that helps them grow their money over the long term, that will eventually lead to financial freedom.

Wealth file #15

Rich people have their money work hard for them.

Poor people work hard for their money.

It is not how much money that you earn or how hard you work, but how much you get to keep.

To become rich, you need to become an investor and make your money work hard for you.

It comes down to this… spend LESS than you earn and INVEST the rest.

Wealth file #16

Rich people act in spite of fear.

Poor people let fear stop them.

Like everybody else rich people have doubts, fears and worries.

They just don’t let it stop them.

A great book I read from Susan Jeffers is called “Feel the fear and do it anyway”.

The best way to control your fear is to just keep taking action!

Step out of your comfort zone, lean into your fears and keep taking action.

Never EVER give up!

Wealth file #17

Rich people constantly learn and grow.

Poor people think they already know.

Tony Robbins says that one of the essential human needs is to keep learning and growing.

You need it.

Before I started on my road to financial freedom I thought I had a good life.

I was “comfortable”.

But really I was miserable and lost.

I wasn’t growing or learning anything new.

Now I wake up with excitement.

I am constantly learning and growing.

Something one of my mentors said to me was “It is not so much about having wealth and money that matters, it is growing into the sort of person capable of achieving the wealth that counts!”

So keep learning, growing and developing your Millionaire Mind!

I hope you enjoyed this 3-part series about how the rich think differently than the poor.

In my opinion rich people are not any better than poor people.

Money will only make you more of what you already are.

So be that person with a wealthy, abundant mindset, and encourage others to do the same.

  1. Good comparison of the rich and poor, John.

I was one of the ‘poor’ people who work hard for the money and I realized if I don’t change it, I might as well work myself to death. Fortunately, I got a bit smarter and has begun to create recurring income through my online business.

I will keep this comparison in mind and hope to see myself becoming “richer” everyday 🙂 Cheers!

    • It is always great to hear when someone is using an abundant mindset to take control of their own financial future.

Thanks for your comment, I wish you great success!:-)

  6. You laid out very good points here. Especially I like this one :”To become rich you need to become an investor and make your money work hard for you” I remember in one of the trainings Kyle mentioned about the importance of saving money and investing them in your business if you want your business to grow over time. This is really very important because unfortunately, very often we spend or even waste our money instead of investing them and making them work hard for us. I really love this article. Keep up your great work!
